Internet of Things – Challenges and China Perspectives

Lecture / Panel

For NYU Community

Speaker: Dr. I-Hung Li

Faculty Host: Professor David C Chang

Abstract

The term of “the Internet of Things” (IoT) was coined in 1999 by the Auto-ID Labs at the MIT. It was referred to discovering information about a tagged object by browsing an Internet address or database entry that corresponds to a particular RFID. Quickly, Visionaries have seized on the phrase and expanded the “things” to include virtually every physical thing in the world. IoT allows people and things to be connected Anytime, Anyplace, with Anything and Anyone using Any path/network and Any service. This talk will address the key enabling technologies, the challenges and opportunities of instrumenting the physical world with pervasive networks of sensor-rich, embedded computation. At the end, we would also address the IoT initiatives in China.
