Abstract

Since 2008, life insurance companies have faced difficult challenges in increasingly volatile financial markets. Low interest rates, declining equity markets and high equity and interest rates fluctuations have impacted life insurance companies’ sustainability. Charles Marino will discuss the impact of these trends in financial market indicators on variable annuities with particular focus on key products, today’s product offerings and views on market valuation and risk appetite.

About the Speaker

Charles Marino is executive vice president and chief actuary for AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company. He has responsibility for all actuarial aspects of pricing, underwriting, reinsurance and valuation and is a member of the company’s Executive Management Committee. Marino joined AXA Financial in 1980 and has moved through positions of increasing responsibility since that time. Marino earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, magna cum laude from New York University.
