As a 19 year-old he set off alone on a spiritual quest, hitch-hiking through Europe, the Middle-east and finally India. He wandered penniless, slept in caves and on the banks of holy rivers, and studied with yogis and sadhus of all varieties, including many of the most prominent spiritual teachers of his era.
