Celebrate the official opening of the new academic year.

The Honorable Jerry MacArthur Hultin, President of Polytechnic Institute of New York University, requests your presence.

 

New undergraduate and new graduate students, undergraduates on the dean’s list, and faculty, please join us for Convocation 2010, as we launch another landmark academic year of invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship (i2e). Immediately following, all guests are invited to a celebratory barbecue at the Othmer Residence Hall of NYU-Poly.

Keynote Speaker: John Seabrook

Author, Flash of Genius and Other True Stories of Invention, who will address the role of inventors in society and engineers as designers.

About the Keynote Speaker

John Seabrook is an American journalist who writes about technology and popular culture. He has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1993. He is the author of Deeper: My Two-Year Odyssey in Cyberspace, Nobrow: The Culture of Marketing the Marketing of Culture, and Flash of Genius and Other True Stories of Invention. His work has also appeared in Harper’s, The Nation, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Travel + Leisure, and The Village Voice.

Seabrook graduated from Princeton University in 1981 and received an MA in English Literature from Oxford. A movie based on his most recent book was released on October 3, 2008, also called Flash of Genius. He has taught narrative nonfiction writing at Princeton University and lives in New York City.
