The Fourth Transatlantic Intellectual Property Summer Academy continues the tradition of bringing together the highest quality presenters from both sides of the Atlantic to identify, explicate and explore the roles of innovation, Intellectual Poperty (IP) and IP management in  national and global contexts.   This one-week conference and course will focus on IP Rights management, with an inter-disciplinary approach, including IP law, IP economics, IP business and IP real life practicalities.  Topics range from the the genesis, encouraging and harnessing of innovation to the theoretical, legal and practical aspects of securing and managing rights in those innovations.  To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln (the only U.S. president to have a patent issued to him), this course places in a current, international context, Lincolns observation that IP adds the fuel of interest to the fire of genius.

The lectures will be presented at Polytechnic Institute of NYU's NYC ACRE Business Incubator at 160 Varick Street in New York City. Among the rights discussed are protection for ideas, trade secrets, copyrights, utility patents, design patents, design rights, trademarks, trade dress and rights of publicity.  The lectures will be presented by leading IP scholars, researchers and practitioners from Europe and from the USA.  Presentation techniques will range from broad discussions of principles and policies to specific application of management and legal principles in the context of specific industries and case studies.  In addition, as detailed below, there will be a special dinner for all attendees on Thursday, August 26.

The cost of attending the conference is 998 Euro or 1,500 U.S. dollars.  For those wishing to attend only the last two days of the conference, the price is  600 Euro or 800 U.S. dollars. Participants registered with NYU-Poly may exercise the option to receive 1.5 credits for attendance of the full conference (and successful completion of academic assignments relating to one or more of the covered topics).  Also, we are currently working to secure New York Continuing Legal Education credits for portions of the conference.

The conference is organized by Bocconi University of Italy and Polytechnic Institute of NYU in cooperation with:
