Learning Management System

Creating/Activating Your Course Site in NYU Brightspace

Instructors can create and activate a course site for an upcoming term in NYU Brightspace using the Create Course Site tool. This workshop demonstrates how to create course site(s), copy content from previous course site(s) and activate course site(s). 


Getting Started with NYU Brightspace 

Whether instructors are using NYU Brightspace for the first or few times, there are always new tips to consider making a course site a welcoming and supportive learning environment for students. This fast-paced and interactive session explores the navigation of the platform, key course site components, and best practices to maximize the use of a course site.


Building Your Course Site in NYU Brightspace

Developing a NYU Brightspace course site can support student learning by facilitating student engagement, communication, and assessment in an online learning environment. This workshop examines different teaching styles and introduces strategies for customizing the virtual supplement to enhance learning in an array of modes of instruction. Discussion includes best practices for effective implementation of the LMS.


Designing Assessments in NYU Brightspace

How can students demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and understanding of course content? Instructors have utilized various methods of assessment to evaluate student understanding throughout the course of the semester. There are various tools and strategies for creating and administering online assessments for each mode of instruction. This workshop demonstrates how to use tools in the learning management system for assessing student comprehension as well as best practices for effective implementation.


Structuring Your Gradebook in NYU Brightspace

An NYU Brightspace course site can be used to collect student work, assess student comprehension, track student progress and communicate grades. This hands-on training workshop demonstrates how to develop a robust gradebook. Topics include: 

  • Use the setup wizard to structure the gradebook
  • Apply grading schemes
  • Adjust gradebook settings 
  • Create and organize grade items
  • Transfer midterm and final grades to Albert

Effective Course Site Design

In this comprehensive and interactive workshop, explores key course site components, focuses on essential instructional practices, and provides strategies for customizing an online supplement for a face-to-face course or completely designing an online course within NYU Brightspace.


NYU Brightspace Essentials for Course Assistants

This workshop is available upon request by an instructor and/or department with a large population of course assistants. All course assistants may attend other available Teaching Innovation workshops. 

The workshop provides the essential tools for course assistants who are starting out with NYU Brightspace, including:

  • Posting content
  • Creating and grading assignments
  • Using the gradebook
  • Turnitin plagiarism checker

Engaging Students with SRS

This workshop explores how the Student Response System (SRS) classroom technology can bring live polling and interactive audience participation to create an active learning environment while assessing student comprehension and informing instruction.

Media Creation for Asynchronous Learning

This workshop examines effective practices for developing and implementing instructor created videos to maximize student engagement and promote active learning while delivering content. Topics will include:
