Alekhya | NYU Tandon School of Engineering

Choosing the Master’s program in Biotechnology at NYU Tandon is one of the best decisions I have made so far, as I have always told every prospective student who reached out to me. I came to the United States holding an engineering degree in hand and high ambition in mind and NYU made it possible to realize my dreams.

The quality and content of the courses offered in this program is unmatched. To me, they were a perfect mix of what I needed to know. My personal favorites were the courses on Biosensors and Computer-aided Drug Design. These thought provoking courses and interactions with professors were a tremendous influence and also helped me develop problem solving and conceptualization abilities. I was surprised to notice how much I was learning every day!

Being in the world’s greatest city with premier research institutions in the field of health and medicine like Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Weill Cornell Medicine and NYU’s own Langone Medical Center just a few minutes away was a game changer in my journey. While taking classes, I volunteered to do a research project in a lab at Sloan-Kettering that introduced me to top notch research in the field of cancer therapeutics and gave me a chance to build technical skills as well as greatly inspired to me do more.

During my last semester at Tandon I landed an internship opportunity with one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world, GSK, and few months after graduation I continue working at Glaxo, learning extensively how to solve problems in the fields of drug development. Where I stand today is a result of my family’s efforts in letting me pursue my dreams and all my teachers who made sure I was well prepared for anything and everything.
