Data Analytics Conference to Shed Light on Employee Engagement to Increase the Bottom Line

NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering Conference Will Explore How Data—Big and Small—Can Help Predict and Improve Engagement and Performance

A recent Gallup poll suggests that 70 percent of all workers in the U.S. do not feel engaged with their jobs—a matter of grave concern given that researchers have identified a strong relationship between employee engagement and a company's overall performance. On Friday, April 4, 2014, the New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering will host a free half-day conference exploring ways in which businesses can employ human capital analytics to understand and predict the critical drivers of engagement and performance to achieve a competitive advantage.

Attendees will join internationally recognized experts from firms such as Accenture, Alcoa, Aon Hewitt, Gallup, Healthy Companies International (HCI), JetBlue, and PepsiCo for talks on measuring healthy leadership as a driver of engagement, squeezing the most from employee engagement survey data, and what big data can reveal about the effect of management interventions on engagement and performance, among other topics.

The keynote address, “Human Capital Analytics: Perspectives from the C-Suite,” will be given by Dr. Rebecca L. Ray, the senior vice president of human capital at The Conference Board. Dr. Jim Harter, chief scientist, workplace management and wellbeing at Gallup, will address Big Data assessment of engagement.  In addition, engagement assessments using “small data” will be presented by many other speakers.

"It’s a whole new world in human resource management," said conference organizer Harold G. Kaufman, professor of management and academic director of the Organizational Behavior Program in the NYU School of Engineering’s Department of Technology Management and Innovation. "More data is being generated than ever before, and companies can use it to enhance a culture of engagement that fosters positive work behaviors and organizational outcomes."

Predicting Engagement & Performance Using Small and Big Data, the third conference in the annual series Human Capital Innovation in Technology and Analytics, will offer opportunities to:

  • network with leaders in this emerging field;
  • visit cutting-edge human resource technology vendors to see their latest products;
  • meet recruiters seeking to fill openings for information technology and HR professionals;
  • earn recertification credits from the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) and the International Association of Human Resource Information Management (IHRIM).

Conference sponsor firms include Accenture, the Drakewell Group, GK Training and Communications, and Healthy Companies International (HCI). These firms will exhibit their products and services, many relevant to the emerging field of human capital analytics. The conference is hosted by the NYU School of Engineering’s Department of Technology Management and Innovation in cooperation with PolySHRM, an award-winning student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.

The conference will be held from noon to 8:30 p.m. at 5 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn, New York. Registration is required, here.
