Tom Helling

Tom Helling is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Technology Management and Innovation at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. He has earned an MS degree in Sustainability Management from Columbia University, an MS degree in Management of Technology from NYU Polytechnic, and a BS degree from Cornell University in Industrial and Labor Relations.

Helling has done pro bono work with a number of entrepreneurial ventures in the media and sustainability space. He is also a volunteer with the Sierra Club, serving as the Political Chair for the Long Island Group, and with the national Digital Strategy Committees’ Change Management Group.

Tom was previously the Vice President of Advertising Operations at The New York Times, where he managed the order to cash process for advertising across all publishing platforms, from traditional print to the various digital platforms, as well as systems supporting these processes, and user support applications such as CRM and B2B customer portals.  This role included collaboration with News, Product Development, and Systems and Technology.

Prior to this role, Tom was Vice President of Advertising Sales, responsible for Financial, Corporate, Advocacy, Technology, Real Estate, and the Recruitment advertising categories. He was also a member of The Times’ Sustainability Working Group, reporting to the Executive Committee on related issues and opportunities.
