Constantin Aliferis

  • Associate Professor, Informatics Director of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and Informatics Director of the Cancer Institute

My research is focused on high dimensional modeling and analysis designed to transform data into new actionable scientific knowledge as it applies to Biomedicine and beyond. My three key areas of broad interest are (a) Use of advanced informatics and analytics to accelerate and enhance the sophistication, volume and quality of scientific research; (b) Quality and cost improvements of healthcare using Big Data approaches; and (c) Precision medicine.

Over the last 25 years I have invented and applied methods that include: reproducible protocols and auto modeling systems for complex analytics, Markov Boundary induction, Causal Graph discovery and modeling, high dimensional feature selection, Support Vector Machines, multi-modal omics analysis, multiplicity modeling, clinical predictive modeling, scientometrics and evidence-driven information retrieval.  Between 2008 and 2015 I served as the Founding Director of the Center for Health Informatics and Bioinformatics (CHIBI) at NYULMC. I have also led the Informatics Program at the NYU CTSI since 2008 and the Informatics Core of the NYU Cancer Institute since 2011. I have also served as the Founding Director of both the Vanderbilt and the NYU PhD Training Programs in Biomedical Informatics.
