Graduate Orientation Leaders (GOLs)

The Office of Student Activities & Resource Center is in search of those enthusiastic and knowledgeable NYU School of Engineering graduate students to be Graduate Orientation Leaders. Graduate Orientation Leaders are valuable team members of the New Graduate Student Orientation Team during the Fall and Spring semesters each year.

This is a volunteer position with the Office of Student Activities & Resource Center. As a Graduate Orientation Leader, you will welcome new students to the campus and help them adjust to life as a graduate student. Grad OL’s help with the administration of various seminars and workshops the new grads will attend, answer questions the new graduates may have, and assist with the day-to-day operations during the week of New Student Orientation.

Being a Graduate Orientation Leader (GOL) is a great way to improve upon your transferable skill set!

Graduate Orientation Captains (GOCs)

A Graduate Orientation Captain (GOC) is an individual who demonstrated excellent leadership and teamwork skills during previous Orientations as a Graduate Orientation Leader (GOL). This passionate and experienced NYU School of Engineering graduate student will lead the team of GOLs and will manage particular processes during the week of training and Orientation.

GOCs are representatives of NYU School of Engineering’s community. They welcome new students to the campus and help them adjust to life as graduate students. Part of the job requires coordinating activities in various locations and to help with the development and preparation of:

  • Seminars and workshops
  • Tours and social events
  • Check-in processes
  • Suggestions and feedback during the planning and organization of NGSO.

This is a paid position within the Office of Student Activities & Resource Center that also provides a great way to improve upon your transferable skill set. In addition to the reward that comes with providing a valuable service and giving back to our community,  some of the other tangible skills include networking, time management, organizational, planning and leadership skills.
