Thank you for your interest in our online Master of Science or Advanced Certificate programs at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. To start the admission process, you will find all the information necessary to apply for the Fall, Spring or Summer semester.

General Requirements

To be eligible for consideration, you must hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, which includes a minimum of FOUR YEARS of full-time study. Attention will be given to the programs accredited by ABET ( and programs accredited/approved by other various regional accrediting associations. Please be advised that admission to a field of study that is different from your Bachelor's degree may require completion of prerequisite courses.

An application for admission must be completed and submitted once you have answered all required questions. Once you have completed all sections of the application, validate and submit it. After submission, you will not be able to make changes to your application information. Please make copies of all submitted documents for your personal file, as we are unable to return applications and supporting documents.

The Office of Graduate Admissions requires all applicants to complete a graduate application. If you have any issues with submitting an application via the online application system or the summer paper application, please contact the NYU Tandon Online Office. The application must be completed and submitted on or before the posted deadline for the term of entry.

Statement of Purpose / Personal Statement

A typewritten, double-spaced, well-organized, one- to two-page statement explaining why you wish to pursue graduate study in your particular program at our particular school. This is your opportunity to introduce yourself and to inform the department about your goals, interests, and career plans as they relate to your intended academic pursuits. Please make sure to include your name (as it appears on your application), program and date. This document should be uploaded to your online application, or emailed to for paper applications.

Resume / Curriculum Vitae

A copy of your most recent résumé or curriculum vitae must be uploaded to the online application or sent by email to

Two Letters of Recommendation

You are required to send two Letters of Recommendation. Recommendations should be provided by professors, employers, supervisors, or others who are able to comment on your academic achievements, research potential and your professional goals (no friends or relatives please). We ask that you register your recommenders or third-party recommendation service in our online application system. Once registered, your recommenders will be prompted to submit their letters electronically. This method allows you to efficiently monitor and follow up with your recommenders.

It is recommended that you notify your recommenders beforehand, so that they are aware of the email notification prompting them to submit their letter online.

To submit a Letter of Recommendation by paper, we ask that your recommender provide this document on letterhead, sealed and mailed to our application processing center.

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts are required from all previously-attended post-secondary institutions, even if you were not a matriculated student (enrolled in a degree, certificate, or diploma program) and/or did not complete an academic program. 

Any transcript you upload to the online application will be considered unofficial; please contact your previously-attended institutions to arrange for official transcripts to be mailed directly to our application processing center.

If your institution offers the option to send Official Electronic Transcripts rather than mailed transcripts, they should submit them directly to This is the email address of the Graduate Admissions Office who will be able to attach these transcripts to your application.

GRE or GMAT Score

Read below or check the GRE/GMAT requirements page to find out if your program requires the GRE or GMAT. Your official test scores must be on file before your application will be reviewed.

  • Applicants who are applying for full-time enrollment must submit official GRE scores.
  • Applicants who are applying for part-time enrollment in the following programs must also submit official GRE scores for admission: Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity and Electrical Engineering.
  • GRE scores may be substituted for the GMAT only for applicants to the Management of Technology Master's Degree or the Project Management Advance Certificate.
  • GRE and GMAT scores are valid for 5 years. The exam must be taken again if your scores are older than 5 years.

English Language Proficiency Testing

All applicants to the School of Engineering for graduate study must demonstrate excellent English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.  Visit our International Student Requirements page to learn more.

What Happens Next?

Once your application has been submitted and all required documents have been received, it will be reviewed by the department to which you applied. When a decision is reached, you will be notified and will be able to access the decision online. If you are admitted, a paper notification will follow, and you will receive information about how to accept/decline your admission.

Deferring an Offer of Admission

Applicants may request to defer their admission to either of the next available Fall, Spring or Summer terms. Deferrals are granted by individual programs at the discretion of the academic department. Deferral requests must be submitted in writing to by the deadlines listed below:
