In Memoriam: Carl Nelson

The entire NYU Tandon community mourns the passing of Professor Carl Nelson, who most recently taught undergraduates in the Department of Technology Management and Innovation. His courses, Foundations of Management and Project Management, were lauded for their realistic, classical, career-centric approach to the material, and he was widely known for his willingness to extend himself and for his sound advice.

Professor Nelson enjoyed a long history with the School of Engineering, joining what was then affectionately known as Poly as one of the first instructors in its new Department of Industrial Management in 1964. In addition to his longstanding affiliation with our institution, he also taught at Long Island University, Cooper Union, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Beloved by students, fellow faculty, and staff members alike, Professor Nelson will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to work and study with him. We are proud to have counted him as colleague and teacher and offer our deepest condolences to his family.
