NYU-Poly Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Elza Erkip, an associate director of NYU WIRELESS, is serving as a guest editor for the IEEE Journal of Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC). The journal has put out a call to papers on “Wireless Communications Powered by Energy Harvesting and Wireless Energy Transfer,” and will publish in autumn, 2014.
Energy harvesting and wireless energy transfer open up new possibilities in wireless communication and networking by enabling energy self-sufficient, energy self-sustaining, environmentally friendly operation with practically infinite lifetimes, untethered mobility, cooperation at signal and energy levels, and simultaneous and synergistic distribution of information and energy in networks. To bring such networks to life, there are many theoretical and practical problems.
The special issue of JSAC that Erkip is co-editing is dedicated to communication theory, information theory, networking, and signal processing aspects of wireless communication networks composed of devices that can harvest energy from nature and transfer energy wirelessly.
