Lady Jays Split With Steven's

WEEHAWKEN, NJ -   The NYU-Poly softball team split a non-conference double-header with Steven's Institute of Technology Wednesday night. The Lady Ducks shuout NYU-Poly in game one 3-0, but the Lady Jays rebounded for a 5-3 win in the night cap.

Sophomore Corine Fitzgibbons (Brooklyn, NY) highlighted the game two efforts by smashing a two-run homer. Fellow sophomore Miranda Merilli (Altoona, PA) picked up the complete game win, striking out  seven Ducks.

Game one pitcher freshmen Briana Feist (San Diego, CA) pitched a gem, scattering four hits in her complete game effort.  All three Steven's runs were unearned, aided by three NYU-Poly fielding errors. Her opposition, Kayla Berardi did one better, as she took a no-hitter into the seventh before pinch-hitter Natalia Stockinger (Putnam Valley, NY) broke it up with a single.

NYU-Poly (17-13) returns to action today against St. Joseph's College (LI) in their final Skyline Conference double-header. The Lady Jays need to win at least one to secure a Skyline playoff berth.
