Winning Streak - Three in a Row for Men's Volleyball

Kroqi's 22 Kills Gives Jays Win Over City Tech

BROOKLYN, NY -  It seemed like deja vu from Tuesday night's Senior Night win over Yeshiva. The NYU-Poly men's volleyball team was off to another slow start. But, just like Tuesday night, the Jays kicked it into high gear, this time led by freshmen Fild Kroqi's (Bronx, NY) career high 22 kills as they came back to beat City Tech 3-1 Thursday night in a non-conference match.

The Jays got dumped in the first set 25-19 as they committed 12 errors in the frame, but came back with a vengence in set two, thumping City Tech 25-11. The Jays coasted through set three, winning 25-20. But, set four was anything but easy. At one point NYU-Poly was up 23-17, before City Tech mounted an impressive rally that led to the eventual 27-25 win for the Jays.

Sophomore Joe Gabor (Warwick, NY) was the only other hitter in double-digits with 12 kills and 14 digs. Senior James Lukban (Bronx, NY) tallied 33 assists and 10 digs. Senior Tom Poppenberg (Springville, NY) racked up 20 digs. Sophomore Omar Guerrero (Austin, TX) chalked up a solo block togo with his 12 digs. Kroqi led all players with six service aces.

NYU-Poly is at Medgar Evers Saturday for a tri-match with Webb Institute. Start time is set for noon.
