Baseball Drops a Double-header to Averett

DANVILLE, VA -   The NYU-Poly baseball team dropped to 0-5 Monday as they lost a pair of games to host Averett University by scores of 18-0 and 22-10. Averett improves to 11-11 on the season.

In the second game, NYU-Poly jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, before seeing the Cougars tie it 4-4. The Jays answered with three more in the second, only to give back four more and trail 8-7 after two.  The game remained tight until Averett exploded for nine in the bottom of then sixth. Each team had 13 hits, but the story was on the field as nine Blue Jay errors led to 17 unearned runs.

Freshmen Nathan Albers (Burbank, CA) took the loss in over five innings of work. He struck out six while walking six and allowed 12 hits. Sophomore Anthony Finch (New York, NY) had a career day going 4-for-4 at the plate while driving in three and scoring three. He also stole two bases.

NYU-Poly will play New England College tomorrow in a single game at Averett.
