Jays Can't Climb the Mount

Women's Basketball Falls to the Knights, 64-43

BROOKLYN, NY -  Things looked good early on in the NYU-Poly women's basketball team's efforts to knock off Mount Saint Mary - the undfeated, first-place team in the Skyline Conference.  A 5-2 start looked promising, but the Knights went on several streaks to break open a double-digit lead and never looked back as they cruised to the 64-43 victory in the Jacobs Gymnasium Tuesday night.  NYU-Poly falls to 14-6, and 10-4 in the conference while the Mount remains perfect in conference play at 15-0 and 19-2 overall.

Jen Mocanu had a game-high 19 points and two other Lady Knights recorded double-digits in the scoring column to pace Mount Saint Mary, who led 36-21 at the half.  The Lady Jays were led by senior Kristin Leitheuser (Pleasant Valley, NY) who was just a rebound away from a double-double, as she scored 16 and had nine boards.  Freshmen Tabitha Larsen (Ramsey, NJ) added 11 points for NYU-Poly.

NYU-Poly will travel to Old Westbury on Thursday.  Old Westbury and NYU-Poly are tied for third in the conference, but the Panthers hold the edge as they defeated the Lady Jays earlier in the season.
