PURCHASE, NY - The NYU-POLY women's basketball team improved to 10-5 overall and 7-3 in the Skyline as they trounced Purchase College Saturday 80-59. The Panthers fell to 4-10 overall and 4-6 in the league.
Purchase trailed 39-34 at the break, keeping pace with their conference rival for the first 20 minutes. The main reason - the Panthers shot 46.9 percent from the field, while limiting NYU-POLY to 44.1 percent.
The second half was a different story as Purchase struggled from the floor. The Lady Jays experience shined through with the team shooting 53.6% to Purchase's 30.3 percent in the final stanza.
NYU-POLY was led by Margaux Pickell, who finished with an impressive 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting. Kristen Leitheuser added 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, nailing four 3-pointers in the process.
The Fighting Blue Jays had two other players finish in double figures, including Shelby Bruns who recorded her 2nd double-double of the season. They also outrebounded the Panthers 37-33, while adding five blocks, five steals and 16 TOs to their credit.
NYU-Poly is back in action Wednesday night against Farmingdale in a huge Skyline matchup. NYU-Poly defeated Farmingdale back in December, marking the first-ever win against the Rams. Tip time is 6:00pm at the Jacobs Gymnasium.
