Jays take two from Stevens


Brooklyn, NY -  After starting the season 10-8, the NYU-Poly softball team has rattled off 10 straight wins. Wins nine and ten came at the mercy of Steven's Institute of Technology in a non-conference twin bill Wednesday night at Floyd Bennett Field. The Lady Jays defeated Stevens 6-4 in game one before winning in 5-innings, 13-5.

In game one, it was senior Natasha Taylor (Portland, ME) leading the way for NYU-Poly as she was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with two runs and two RBI. Freshmen Anna Marie Smith (Henderson, NV) added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI and a run scored.

Game two featured another perfect performance, this time by freshmen Shelby Bruns (Elko, NV). She went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Smith went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.  Freshmen Corinne Fitzgibbons also had a solid game going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Freshmen pitcher Miranda Merilli (Altoona, PA)  picked up both wins to improve to 12-5 overall on the season. She combined to strike out 14 batters, while walking three.

NYU-Poly will host Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday in a Skyline double-header at Floyd Bennett Field at noon.
