Second Half Slump; Lady Jays Lose Third Straight

NYU-Poly shoots just 21% in 2nd half; falls to St. Joseph's

Brooklyn, NY -  It was a game the NYU-Poly women's basketball needed to win. The Lady Jays came into Wednesday night's Skyline Conference tilt with Saint Joseph's College (LI) reeling from two straight losses to Purchase and Old Westbury. But, thanks to an ice cold 21% field goal percentage in the second half, The Golden Eagles took a narrow 37-28 halftime lead and blew it open to a 73-50 victory.

NYU-Poly falls to 7-9 overall and 4-7 in the Skyline, while St. Joseph's improves to 10-8 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

Each team had three players reach double-digits in points, as the Fighting Blue Jays were led by three sophomores — Kristin Leitheuser (Millbrook, NY), Margaux PIckell (Howell, NJ), and Megan Bosi (New Milford, NJ) — who netted 16, 11, and 12 respectively. Pickell added 11 boards for her 8th double-double of the season.

St. Joseph's was led by Trish McMahon who pumped in a game-high 20 points and 14 boards.for St. Joseph's, which shot 41% for the game and 11-for-18 from the line. NYU-Poly was 19-for-32 from the free throw line. The Lady Jays turned the ball over 21 times, compared to 18 by the Golden Eagles.

NYU-Poly travels to Sage College on Saturday for a pivotal Skyline contest at 1:00pm. Sage is currently in 7th place and NYU-Poly is in 8th. Whichever team wins could leapfrog Purchase (6th), who plays St. Josephs,  to take over that all-important 6th playoff spot.
