St Joseph's downs NYU-Poly

Zeig wins third straight match at 1st singles

Staten Island, NY -  The NYU-Poly women's tennis team was riding high after Saturday's conference win over Mount Saint Vincent. Unfortunately, Sunday was a different day, as St Joseph's (LI) took the wind out the Blue Jay sails, handing NYU-Poly (2-3, Skyline 1-2) an 8-1 defeat.

Freshmen Ariel Zeig continued her stellar weekend performance with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kelly Crawford at first singles. But, that was the only match the Jays really were in, as the Golden Eagles swept the rest of singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 results. With the exception of Stephanie Weldon at second singles (0-6, 1-6) and first doubles (Zeig and Weldon 3-8) the NYU-Poly rackets were silenced.

Zeig went 3-0 in singles on the weekend and 2-1 in doubles, earning her the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week award. She becomes the first women's tennis player at NYU-Poly to win that award, in the NYU-Poly era.

The Jays are off until Friday when they face Jay Street rival City Teach at 4:00pm.
