July 29, 2015: Brief update on the visit by Ken Gracey, CEO of Parallax, Inc.

Teachers within the SMARTER and Cyber Security RET programs at NYU Poly werevisited by the CEO of Parallax, Ken Gracey in late afternoon. Ken brought a diverse array of robotics and programming components to illustrate possible uses within the classroom. From introductory components like the BOE-Bot using the basic STAMP microcontroller to the company’s advanced multi-core Propeller controller, there was something for everyone. Live demonstrations included a swarm of autonomous robots, microprocessor controlled LEDs capable of emitting millions of unique colors, a variety of range finders, including ultrasonic and laser technologies, as well as a new approach to conference badges. The new badges allow conference goers to easily exchange contact information wirelessly, and include a small OLED display. Very cool stuff! and all of the components are assembled in the US. It was a wonderful opportunity to see a company deeply invested into the learning process, with the microcontroller products offering free support materials for teachers to use (downloadable via http://learn.parallax.com) with their students free of charge. After Ken’s presentation, teachers spent time discussing how they might integrate programming and robotics into their current curriculum.
