What to Bring to New Graduate Student Orientation

You will need the following documents for orientation and the registration process:

International Students:

  • NYU Tandon School of Engineering admission letter
  • Passport with visa (if applicable)
  • Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 / DS-2019) (all original copies) (if applicable)
  • I-94 (access online and print at i94.cbp.dhs.gov and print after arrival in U.S.)
  • Conditional Documents - only what is required by the conditions, if any, in your acceptance letter, which may include:
    • Proof of Degree, which may include:
      • Official final transcripts with a date of graduation on them
      • Official final transcripts without a date of graduation AND a diploma / degree certificate
      • If official final transcripts are not yet available, an official transcript that is as current as possible AND a provisional certificate may be shown; an official final transcript and diploma / degree certificate will be required to be shown later in order to register for your second semester.
    • Transcripts for any required prerequisite courses taken since you were admitted

Domestic Students:

  • NYU Tandon School of Engineering admission letter
  • Photo ID
  • Conditional Documents - only what is required by the conditions, if any, in your acceptance letter, which may include:
    • Proof of Degree, which may include:
      • Official final transcripts with a date of graduation on them
      • Official final transcripts without a date of graduation AND a diploma / degree certificate
      • If official final transcripts are not yet available, an official transcript that is as current as possible AND a provisional certificate may be shown; an official final transcript and diploma / degree certificate will be required to be shown later in order to register for your second semester.
    • Transcripts for any required prerequisite courses taken since you were admitted
    • Official transcripts and anything else required to satisfy a proof of documents condition should already have been submitted before or during admission and before your arrival at NYU.

Transportation from the Airport to Accommodations

From: JFK

The cheapest transportation option available is using public transportation. AirTrain ($7.75) is a service from JFK Airport to major transit centers. From there, buses and subway lines run throughout the city via the MTA NYC Transit ($2.75)

Taxi cab fares range from:
$59 - $64 to Downtown Brooklyn (Plus tolls and tip)
$52 Flat Fare to Manhattan (Does not include tolls, tip)

The cheapest and most efficient option when traveling from LaGuardia to Manhattan is the following bus route with subway connections:

  • M60 Select Bus Service - available to all terminals at LaGuardia to the East Side, West Side or Astoria (Queens). The M60 runs between 106 Street and Broadway in Manhattan and LaGuardia Airport 24 hours a day, seven days a week. North and South bound subway connections to Manhattan can be made at the Astoria Blvd station. If you pay your fare with MetroCard ($2.75), you can transfer between the subway and M60 bus for free.

Public Transportation is the cheapest option available. AirTrain ($5.50), combined with NJ Transit buses or trains ($16 - $28) altogether costs $22 - $34.

From Newark to Manhattan, Uber charges flat rates of:
$65 (UberX), $80 (UberXL), $100 (UberBLACK), $125 (UberSUV)
