Application

Please read these directions before you begin the online application process. Have the personal essay and your resume available as a word or text file to copy and past  into the online application form. The form can not accept PDF files. The application form must be completed all at once, so please have all of your information ready. You will need to provide the name, phone number, and email address of your school’s principal to serve as a reference as well as the name, phone number, and email address of your school’s assistant principal or a senior colleague to serve as a second reference. They will be contacted, directly, by us and will be asked to provide a written recommendation. Please let them know, ahead of time, that you are applying to the program and about the requirements for the program.

 Qualified and interested High School or Middle School teachers are encouraged to apply.  Your application will be considered in its totality and we will focus particular attention on your written essay(s) and recommendation letters.IMG_0222

Eligibility:

Eligibility requirements differ by program. Please see each program page for details. Applicants must have a regular public or private high school teaching appointment within daily commuting distance to NYU Tandon School of Engineering in downtown Brooklyn, NY.  Extensive prior knowledge in the specific topic areas is not required, however, participants must have a minimum of three years of teaching experience in STEM disciplines and the written endorsement of their school principal via a recommendation letter.

Personal Information:

Please provide us with your full name, an email address that you regularly check, your permanent address where you can receive paper mail, and information about your teaching position and school.

Resume/CV:

Please have a resume/CV in word or text file format available to copy and paste into the application.

Recommendation letters:

You will need to provide the names and contact information from two people who can write a recommendation letter. One must be the Principal of your school. The Principal will be contacted by us and asked to write a letter to address your qualifications for the program, the Principal’s endorsement of your participation in the program, and a description of the ability and intent of the school to support an in-class and possibly after-school implementation of the cyber security curriculum developed over the summer. A second recommendation letter must be from an Assistant Principal or senior colleague who can comment on your qualifications and future as a STEM educator. IMG_1486

Partner:

For the DR K-12 program or the ITEST program you will be asked to provide the name of the teacher at your school who is applying with you. They must fill out their own application.

Personal Essay:

Please write a short (300-500 words) essay, based on the following questions:

RET: What abstract STEM concepts do you wish to demonstrate to your students through mechatronics and robotics? Why do you want to participate in this RET? How do you think having your own research experience over the summer will better help you inspire and teach your students? What facilities or equipment do you use at your school for hands-on learning activities? How you will utilize the information you learn to integrate robotics into lesson plans, curriculum and clubs at your school?

ITEST: What abstract STEM concepts do you wish to demonstrate to your students through robotics? Why do you want to participate in this professional development program? How do you think entrepreneurship training will better help you inspire and teach your students? What facilities or equipment do you use at your school for hands-on learning activities? How you will utilize the information you learn to integrate robotics into an elective course at your school?

DR K-12: What abstract STEM concepts do you wish to demonstrate to your students through robotics? Why do you want to participate in this professional development program? How do you think entrepreneurship training will better help you inspire and teach your students? What facilities or equipment do you use at your school for hands-on learning activities?
