FirstNews Briefs: Crown Castle, Huawei, Oppo and NYU Wireless

Crown Castle on Monday announced another fiber deal, this time to pick up Wilcon Holdings for some $600 million.

The transaction is the latest of more than five fiber acquisitions from Crown Castle as the company looks to reposition itself to take advantage of the small cell build outs currently underway in wireless. Wilcon will net Crown Castle some 1,900 miles of fiber, mostly in Los Angeles and San Diego. The deal will bring Crown Castle’s total fiber holdings to more than 28,000 route miles. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter 2017.
