Steel Shots: Double-Duty

Proving that innovative engineering (and steel) can overcome specific weight, this photo shows the Polytechnic Institute of New York University’s student steel bridge from this year’s ASCE/AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition supporting the university’s student concrete canoe from this year’s ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition. The Student Steel Bridge Competition challenges student engineers from across North America to build their own small-scale pre-designed and fabricated steel bridges and tests the load-bearing capacity of the actual bridges built to this year's specifications.
