Urban planners are looking to bring still more change to Downtown Brooklyn, an area that's undergone significant change in the last decade or so. They're studying several ways to solidify a new technology hub to allow the creative community there to thrive. NY1's Jeanine Ramirez filed the following report.
It's called The Greenhouse, a brand new space inside one of the buildings at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU Poly) in Downtown Brooklyn. It's designed to let ideas grow.
"People feel more empowered, and they're more innovative and creative, when you give them the permission to do whatever they want to do," said Sana Altaf, a student at NYU Poly. "That's what we tried to create in this space."
"We were working on a project, and this group of students came up and said, 'Hey, this is really cool. I have a few ideas,'" said Ashwin Gopi, a researcher at NYU Poly.
It's that kind of innovative environment that a coalition of Brooklyn groups want to bring outside.
