Greenpoint YMCA Teens Create Problem Solving Robots


The Greenpoint YMCA, Exxon Mobil and NYU offer a unique summer program in environmental literacy and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to local teens.

At NYU-Poly the students worked with NYU-Poly engineering professors and students, getting a first-hand look at what it takes to be a professional engineer. Some of the students may pursue other careers, but other SYSTEM teens like Muhammed Uppal saw this opportunity as only a beginning. “This trip connected with me and my future perfectly because I hope to pursue an engineering career. When I first walked into the room I knew that this would be a great experience.”

This summer, the program includes a unique partnership with NYU-Poly’s Center for K-12 STEM Education, an NSF funded RET Site and a GK-12 Fellows project to provide SYSTEM students with an opportunity to learn about engineering.
