ENGINEERING THE FUTURE

You are invited to apply for a six-week, three credit summer course: Introduction to Engineering and Design (EG1003), an introduction to selected aspects of the history, philosophy, methodology, tools, and contemporary topics in engineering. This course includes basic engineering experimentation and data analysis;  a team design project. Analysis and presentation of engineering data and designs.

MORE ABOUT AN INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING AND DESIGN FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

This course aims to provide  students with a hands-on, experiential learning experience, which will provide: working knowledge of contemporary engineering practice, the problem solving process, and the tools and technologies engineers employ, as well as an understanding of the design process including competition, cost, quality, scheduling and manufacturability considerations and the opportunity to practice in an actual design project - building a robot.

THE CURRICULUM

Over a period of six weeks, you will be exposed to five exciting engineering disciplines with a strong emphasis in technical communication, both verbal and written. Classes begin Monday, July 7th and end on Friday, August 15th.

Class meets Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Classes meet for lab on Monday and Thursday from 10:00am to 12:50pm and recitation on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00am to 11:30am. Lecture will be held on Wednesdays from 10:00am to 11:50pm. The remaining time each day will consist of a one hour lunch followed by work in the model shop or writing center.

ADMISSION PROCESS

This course is offered as a part of the NYU Precollege program.  Students interested in taking this course must apply to NYU Precollege.  If admitted to the program, students may view the course information in the NYU Precollege course search, including instructions on how to apply to take Introduction to Engineering and Design by submitting a course application to the School of Engineering.  Students approved to take the course will be registered in the course by the School of Engineering.  Only students admitted to both NYU Precollege and to the course may be enrolled in the course.
