In 2013, I graduated from China Pharmaceutical University with a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. Within the realm of pharmaceutical sciences, the discovery and development of drugs interested me the most so I decided to further my studies in the NYU Tandon School of Engineering’s Biotechnology MS program.
I knew the NYU Tandon School of Engineering was the right choice for me at the first meeting with my advisor. Later, the supportive faculty, welcoming student community and nurturing environment for both academia and entrepreneurship reaffirmed this impression. The core courses helped me understand the basic concepts as well as the trailblazing advances in the field of biotechnology, while assignments enabled me to apply my knowledge practically and enhanced my critical thinking. Biotechnology and the Pharmaceutical Industry was one of the most inspiring courses, as it allowed me to simulate the entire process of drug development from target identification to clinical trials. I would also recommend elective courses such as Neuroscience, Biomedical Materials and Devices and Biostatistics for those interested in research.
In addition to building a sound foundation of theoretical knowledge, I broadened my laboratory skill set through an internship at Columbia University Medical Center, working intensively with murine models to study the role of inflammation and stem cells in colorectal tumorigenesis. This research experience was extremely valuable as it helped me secure an internship and subsequent job offer at Harvard Medical School, where I'm now a researcher investigating the interactions of epigenetic events in melanoma."
