Our programs ignite a passion for STEM in K-12 students by using real-world connections and cutting-edge technology.

Middle school students work on a science project



Designed for tenth and eleventh grade students with little or no access to high-quality STEM education experiences, students of color, and those from low-income backgrounds, this seven-week program features challenging college-level workshops authentic lab research in such fields as civil and urban engineering; mechanical and electrical engineering; robotics; composite materials; biology, molecular design, and protein engineering; all taking place under the guidance of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty members. Over 100 students have completed the program, presented their research at the annual ARISE colloquium, and many students have continued in their labs during the academic year.

This initiative introduces high-school age young women to programming, virtuous hacking, and digital forensics during an intensive and supportive three-week-long program designed to encourage them to pursue educational opportunities in computer science and cybersecurity—fields that are growing at more than 10 times the overall job market but are notoriously deprived of female professionals.

Creativity in Engineering, Science, and Technology is an innovative 60-hour course for high school students on applying physical computing, mechanical systems and electronics to design and build interactive devices. This apprenticeship training occurs on Saturdays in the Spring Semester

CrEST - Summer workshops

Twelve trained CrEST graduates from the Spring term, will work with our graduate and undergraduate students to run a series of one-week workshops based on the CrEST’s program curriculum during summer 2017 on our campus. Each week for 6 weeks, 64 middle school students grouped across four classrooms will attend these 30-hour workshops at our downtown Brooklyn location. These middle school students will be drawn from partner nonprofit organization’s summer programs, allowing them to experience ‘camp within camp’ on a college campus while learning new and exciting STEM knowledge and concepts through lessons that focus on hands-on building, computer programming and engineering various kinds of interactive devices. Over the summer, 384 middle school students will take this workshop.

Introduced for the first time in the summer of 2017, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and the Science of Smart Cities (ieSoSC) introduces high school students to innovation and entrepreneurship to the engineering, science, and technology that make cities more livable, efficient, sustainable, and safer through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and experiments.

Autodesk 3D Design

This program introduces middle school students to 3D modeling, design, simulations and animations by providing a cross-disciplinary approach to rendering real-world objects and ideas in a 3D environment. Students advance from 2D sketches and Tinkercad to Autodesk Fusion 360. The 10-day workshop curriculum is designed and developed for students with no prior experience with 3D design and modeling.

Summer Program for Automation Robotics and Coding

NYU’s Summer Program for Automation Robotics and Coding (SPARC) is a two-week, full-day summer program for introducing rising 9th through 12th high school students to the basics of robotics, mechatronics and programming on the NYU Tandon Downtown Brooklyn campus. SPARC is best suited for academically strong students with an interest, but not necessarily experience in robotics.
