Carlo Yuvienco - Graduate Student Profile

An outstanding scientific researcher with a passion for reaching students, Yuvienco is pursuing a doctorate at the School of Engineering, propelling his drive to invent and teach towards entrepreneurship. He was nominated as an "Inspiring Graduate Student" in 2013 by Prof. Jin Kim Montclare.

While using his Chemical Engineering degree for work in industrial research and development, Carlo Yuvienco became interested in life sciences and medicine. As a Master’s student in Biomedical Engineering, he joined the School of Engineering AMPS program and began teaching science and robotics to kids in underprivileged K-12 classrooms. In 2010, Carlo was selected as a graduate speaker at the NYAS Soft Materials Group and won recognition at an NCI Symposium for excellence in polymer research.

The release of Apple’s iPad motivated him to learn iOS programming in a weekend and create Lewis Dots, a free iTunes app with over 20,000 downloads which allows students to draw and interact with 3D images of chemical structures. Carlo has teamed with the School of Engineering business incubator to seek grants and venture capital funding to further develop Lewis Dots and will earn his PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2013.
