Degree: M.S. in Civil Engineering

Why NYU Tandon?
There’s no better place for someone interested in civil and urban engineering and construction than New York City. There are countless infrastructure projects going on at all times, so the opportunities for getting involved here are practically limitless.

Was it hard adjusting once you arrived?
It was a big change from Venezuela, but I had a tremendous number of resources. Everyone from my fellow students to my professors to the people in the office of graduate admissions were a huge help. I know from talking to friends who chose other schools that this isn’t always the case, and as a result, my adjustment went very smoothly.

What has your career been like?
After graduating, I began at Halstead Welles Associates, which is a New York City-based design and building firm specializing in urban gardens. I’m a construction project manager, which involves procuring materials, budgeting, scheduling, and other duties on a wide variety of commercial and residential projects.

How did your Tandon education prepare you for success?
I took many practical courses that I use every day, and I’m especially glad to have studied under Professor Lou.  Really, however, everyone in the department made sure I had a very solid foundation in my field. Between the knowledge I gained, the Tandon focus on entrepreneurship, and the networking opportunities my professors presented, I got the best education imaginable.
