Short Term Study Abroad - J-term, Spring Break, Summer

Japan

Due to Tandon's sometimes strict degree requirements, students may need to adhere to a strict four-year plan, making it difficult to study abroad for an entire semester. If this is the case, yet you want to participate in an international experience prior to graduation, you may want to look into studying abroad through one of the many Short Term Study Abroad programs available at NYU.

Tandon Specific Opportunities

The following opportunities have been developed by Tandon specifically for Tandon students. The staff at Tandon Global, are continuously working to develop global opportunities for upperclassmen during J-term, spring break, and summer. The following courses provide students an opportunity to immerse themselves in a focused academic topic taught by NYU Tandon faculty members with a required travel component.

Some examples of programs that have run in the past include:

  • J-Term

    • NYU Buenos Aires: Argentina, Identity, and City Building (HUSS Course)
    • Indonesia: Embracing Diversity - Challenges and Context in Sustainability (HUSS Course)
  • Summer
    • Service Trip to Tanzania (Pre-Health)
    • Service Trip to Sri Lanka (Pre-Health and Infrastructure)

New programs are being offered every year so be sure to check back often. J-term programs are generally announced in August/September and Summer programs are announced in December/January.

Tandon Faculty Led Short Term Study Abroad Programs

A number of NYU partner institutions offer STEM focused summer programs offered exclusively to Tandon students. Programs range in length, content, and price points. Below is an updated list of programs being offered for Summer 2024. Summer offerings are updated ever year in January. We have broken down the offerings between Asia (page 1) and the rest of the world on Page 2.

The Alternative Breaks (AB) program provides students with the opportunity to learn about political and social community dynamics while becoming a catalyst for collaborative social change. Through learning and practice, students will explore the theory of integrating service, education, and reflection to create meaningful change in their communities. Most, but not all programs, involved an international component.

Financial Aid and Cost

It is important to remember, students participating in Short Term Programs may incur additional costs not normally associated with their semesterly NYU tuition, financial aid, and coursework.

Students may apply for additional summer financial aid (application available mid February of each spring term) but this aid can only apply towards NYU Summer Abroad courses.
