How would you describe the online IDM course you took?
What inspired you to pursue a Master's Degree in Integrated Design & Media?
I decided to get a master’s degree because I was unsatisfied with both my career path, and what I was doing at the time, and I saw NYU as a great way to advance my career in a quick way. Fortunately I was right.
What set the integrated design & media program at NYU apart from others you considered?
What sets IDM apart is your ability to chart your own path as a student, and dive deep into the area that you are specifically interested in. The breadth and width of the interests represented by IDM students always amazes me. And there was never a shortage of people who were expert in the field you were interested in ready to help you out.
Which courses in the program made the biggest impact for you, and why?
I took a class from Beth Noveck about technology and government, who worked for the Obama Administration, that class really set the tone for my thesis, and introduced me to some of the most influential people of my life. It also lead to an incredible job working for the Governor's office of New Jersey and bringing innovation to the state.
What specific skills or mindset did you develop here which were pivotal to your career?
When I came to NYU I didn't know the first think about software development, I was a decent designer, but I really wanted to round out my knowledge set by learning to code. I took a couple classes from the creative coding artist Kevin Siwoff, which really gave me a love for programing. Within a year I was developing my own apps and Augmented Reality interaction, and I don't think I could have done that if I didn't go to IDM.
