Deferral and Withdrawal Policies

The below policy applies to students admitted or enrolled in the Bridge course. Individuals who wish to defer or withdraw must submit the “Defer/Withdraw form” found in your Enrollment Agreement within your Admission Email. The deadline for students (who accept their offer*) to defer or withdraw is 28 days after the start of the course. The specific defer/withdraw deadlines can be referenced in the calendar above, and are provided within the Enrollment Agreement.

Students have the option to defer their admission one time only to the term/s available in the Defer/Withdraw form. Students who defer or withdraw will be removed from the course. Students who defer will be re-admitted to their deferral semester and will need to re-accept their admission offer, and will begin the course as a new student.

The cost of the course is subject to change at any time. Changes in tuition cost applies to students deferring to a future semester. Please read the Tuition Disclaimer for more information.

*Individuals who do not accept their offer by the deadline to respond to their admission offer will not be able to defer.

Deferring or withdrawing before the deadline:

  • Individuals who submit the Defer/Withdraw form before the deadline will not be financially responsible.
    • Students who have not paid, and submit the Defer/Withdraw form by the deadline will have the balance removed from their account.
    • Students who have paid and submit the Defer/Withdraw form by the deadline will have the payment will be refunded.

Withdrawing after the deadline:

  • Students who submit the Defer/Withdraw form after the deadline are financially liable for the course.
    • Students who have signed up for the Payment Plan, and withdraw after the deadline, are responsible for submitting any outstanding payments at the time of their withdrawal.
    • Students who wish to stop participating in the course after the defer/withdraw deadline must submit the Defer/Withdraw form and are liable for the full cost of tuition at the time of their withdrawal.
    • Students cannot defer, only withdraw after the deadline, and must submit a new application if they wish to be considered for a future semester.

Same Semester Term Swaps

Students enrolled in a Bridge course with both 17 and 24 week offerings can swap course durations for up to 2 weeks after the first exam. The exact swap deadline for the course you are enrolled in can be found within the Enrollment Agreement in your Admission email. Same semester term swap confirmation must be sent to tandon.online@nyu.edu.

  • Swap requests made 5 days prior to the first exam cannot be accommodated and will be completed the day following your exam.
  • Your new course will take at least 24-hours to appear in NYU Classes. Once it appears you are responsible for contacting your TA’s or professors and having them adjust your Gradescope and Piazza accounts to reflect your new term duration.
  • All questions related to course material surrounding the duration swap must be directed to your TA’s or professors within the course site.

Retaking the Bridge course

  • Students can retake/repeat the Bridge course one (1) time, and must pay the course's tuition again in order to be enrolled.
  • All requests to retake/repeat the course must come via email to the NYU Tandon Online office (tandon.online@nyu.edu).
