Kristen Casano, currently in her third year of Science and Technology Studies, finds inspiration from the research opportunities offered at the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering.
Hailing from Brooklyn, Kristen Casano did not need to travel far to get started on her childhood dream of becoming a doctor. At the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, she discovered the wide variety of exciting and interesting courses offered in the Science and Technology Studies program, with hands-on research that exposes her to real-world scenarios.
In particular, Kristen credits a class that allowed her to work with people who have disabilities, teaching lessons that "you wouldn't find in a textbook." She encourages young women to purse their passions in science, technology, engineering and math, following their interests and overcoming any challenges they may face. Thanks to the firm technical foundation provided by the NYU School of Engineering, Kristen plans to realize her lifelong goals by enrolling in medical school after graduation.
