Joseph S. Nadan, Ph.D.
Dr. Nadan is an “Innovation Sherpa”; he invented, innovated and/or worked on many products and services including EZ Pass, CDROM, Reuters Triarch, and 16:9 HDTV for which he received a 2002 EMMY for Scientific and Technological Advancement. Currently, he is Professor – Management of Business and Technology Innovation at the New York University School of Engineering. From November 2009 until September 2015 he was Director of its Master of Science Programs in Management of Technology and founded its Coaching & Mentoring program. A Senior Member of the IEEE, he also serves as a Senior Editor of The International Journal of Innovation Science, and is a co-founder, Member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, and Chair of the Organizational Assessment Working Group of the International Association of Innovation Professionals.
Dr. Nadan has a Ph.D. in Computer/Electrical Engineering from the City University of New York followed 13 years later by an Executive MBA in consumer behavior, marketing and strategic planning from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
During the early part of his career he received early tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor of Computer/Electrical Engineering and Assistant Dean of the School of Engineering at the City College of the City University of New York. His proudest accomplishment was that he was dissertation advisor to six students who completed their PhDs in seven years. He then went on a sabbatical leave for a year, and then gave up tenure to become the full-time Scientific Consultant to the President of Philips Research Laboratories for the next nine years.
Over the following 25 years he held numerous senior level management positions (SVP of Reuters for Strategic Planning and NY Operations, Sr. EVP and de-facto COO of the Market Data Corporation affiliate of Cantor Fitzgerald, CTO of AIG, and SVP and Global CTO of NYSE traded GTECH, the world’s leading provider of real-time lotteries. He was then Managing Partner of the US division of London based TORI Global, with consulting practices focused on managing innovation programs, information technology strategic planning and implementation, as well as organizational leadership and development for clients including Barclays, Credit Suisse, GE, HSBC, Société Générale and UBS.
He is a business strategy expert specializing in entrepreneurship and the design, implementation and management of innovation programs. Dr. Nadan is a Certified Master Leader of the “Art of Innovation” method and workshops, a McQuaig Certified Behavioral Assessment Interpreter, and a Belbin Accredited Team-Roles Analyst.
His current interests include applying Mind Genomics science to the practices of innovation and marketing, the rapid assessment of organizational cultures and innovation competencies, and tackling the social consequences of hyper-productivity.
