The School of Engineering's Counseling and Wellness Services (CWS) center offers a variety of services to help students achieve their maximum potential both academically and professionally, as well as socially and emotionally.
If you are an the School of Engineering student, you can meet with a professional staff member, a licensed psychologist, psychiatrist or social worker (or with a supervised trainee), for consultation and referral, short-term individual counseling and psychotherapy, medication consultation, and group counseling and psychotherapy. Consultation, counseling, and psychotherapy are confidential* and paid for as part of your registration fees, so there is no additional cost to you. There is no fee for medication consultations for students with the School of Engineering student insurance. Students with other insurance will be billed for the applicable co-pay.
We also offer consultation to friends, family, faculty and staff members who are concerned about an the School of Engineering student. (Note: We cannot disclose information about a particular student, without his/her written consent, nor can we disclose whether or not a student has or is receiving services at CWS).
We are available too as an educational resource and to present workshops on a variety of topics to the School of Engineering organizations, clubs and departments. (See our list of workshops located in our services overview.)

The NYU Student Health Center's (SHC) Wellness Exchange provides a safety net for students in crisis situations; same day counseling assessments and psychiatric (medication and assessment) services. Medication prescriptions written by psychiatric professionals during walk-in hours at the Wellness Exchange are limited to a 5-day supply to address urgent situations only. For continuous psychiatric care and medication management, students can make an appointment at the School of Engineering CWS office. Students can access the Wellness Exchange through a private hotline, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which will put them in touch with professionals who can help them address both day-to-day challenges as well as any other crises they may encounter, including depression, sexual assault, anxiety, alcohol and drug dependence, sexually transmitted infections, and eating disorders. The Wellness Exchange is also available for students who just need to talk or to call about a friend.
