Lady Jays Swoop Past St Josephs


BROOKLYN, NY -  With just over eight minutes to play in the game, the NYU-Poly women's basketball team watched as St. Joseph's (LI) took it's first lead of the game since taking a very early 2-0 lead. Luckily, the Lady Jays didn't blink twice, as they rattled off a 10-0 run to go back up comfortably and cruise to the 66-53 Skyline Conference win.

NYU-Poly led for most of the first half. At one point, the lead grew to 17 with six minutes to play in the first frame. But, the Golden Eagles closed the margin to 28-19 at the half.

NYU-Poly was led by sophomore Shelby Bruns (Elko, NV) 17 points and five steals. Junior Margaux Pickell (Howell, NJ) recorded her 4th double-double of the young season as she netted 15 points and 12 rebounds, while adding a team-high six assists.  Freshmen Tabitha Larsen (Ramsey, NJ) added 16 points and four steals.

St. Joseph's held a narrow lead on the boards 51-50, but committed more turnovers (25) then NYU-Poly's 23.

The Lady Jays are now 4-1 overall and 2-0 atop the Skyline Conference, while St. Josephs falls to 0-3 and 0-1 in the conference. NYU-Poly returns to the home court on Saturday at 2:00 versus Mount Saint Vincent in a pivotal early season Skyline tilt.
