Poly Alum, Stephen Levy, Receives Honorary Degree

Jerry Hultin, president of Polytechnic University, presented Stephen L. Levy with an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree at an alumni reception in La Jolla, California on March 27, 2007. Almost two dozen people attended the event held at the faculty club of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Director of alumni relations, Donald Ivanoff, was on hand to greet the alumni who represented class years from 1942 through 2001 and included three faculty members from UCSD.

Levy attended Polytechnic during the late 1940’s but left to pursue work opportunities. He enjoyed a stellar career which took him through the ranks of Motorola, starting as a product marketing manager in 1964 and ending as senior vice president and member of the company’s board of directors in 1991. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and is a member of Tau Beta Pi. He served as a Polytechnic trustee from 1981 – 1990 and has been a long-time supporter of Poly through a named scholarship. In his comments Dr. Levy paid tribute to the fact that during his time of attendance, Polytechnic was the only school in New York that had an undergraduate evening program leading to a degree in engineering.
