iPod accessories aren’t the only electronics to suffer the fate of obsolescence. From cellphone chargers to Zip drives to hulking monitors, homes and offices are filled with retired electronics. Ed Bear created this and other projects for his TERRE (Technical Education Reusing and Repurposing E-waste) workshops to illustrate how electronics can be given a second life.

With the joyous birth of a new iPod generation comes the obsolescence of the accessories designed for its parent iteration. Turn one such accessory, an iTrip FM transmitter that lets you listen to your iPod through a radio, into an FM transmitter you can use for all sorts of things: wireless microphone, remote control, prototyping/product development, radio relay. Recent the School of Engineering graduate Ed Bear created this project.
