On the warm, spring afternoon of April 8, the School of Engineering welcomed Admiral Gary Roughead, the chief of naval operations and the highest-ranking officer in the Navy. It was the only visit he would pay to any school during his trip to New York. Captain Cynthia Macri, who oversees diversity interests for the admiral, explained why, describing the School of Engineering as unique: “The Navy needs technical majors and admires the partnerships the School of Engineering cultivates with local public schools to promote the sciences,” she explained.
