THE ABILITY EXCHANGE is a documentary about an experiential class where self-advocates with cerebral palsy and engineering students team up to make movies. Following acclaimed professor Allan Goldstein’s Disability Studies course at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, the film features the transforming relationships among these first-time filmmakers as they take on a personal and collaborative journey probing boundaries of ability, “normalcy" and inspiration, both intellectually and emotionally. The film invites the viewer to reflect on what it takes to understand and appreciate a person, a community, a culture, and how this exchange of abilities and perspectives empowers lives.
