Central New York may not have been one of the big winners in this year's Regional Economic Development Council competition, but the region was successful in securing funding to help start-up businesses.
The Central New York Regional Economic Development Council is one of five regions awarded state funding through the inaugural Innovation Hot Spot competition. The Central New York, Finger Lakes, North Country, Southern Tier and Western New York regional councils will each receive $250,000 annually to provide assistance to new firms.
Central New York's innovation hot spot incubator will be located at the Tech Garden in Syracuse. The incubator will utilize programs already in place to help start-ups and provide bioengineering lab space and advanced manufacturing assistance. Several area colleges and universities will be involved with the innovation hot spot.
