Presents "NSF Research Programs in Photonics – Prospects & Procedures"
Dr. Zavada is the Program Director and the Program Officer for Photonics in the Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems (ECCS) which encompasses emerging research in photonic devices and related technologies. In this talk he will address the major NSF research opportunities in the ECCS area. In addition, he will describe the NSF Merit Review process that is central to funding decisions.
The National Science Foundation (NSF), which was established in 1950 by President Truman, is part of the Executive Branch and has an annual budget of nearly 7 billion dollars. Each year it receives approximately 40,000 proposals covering a wide range of scientific, engineering and educational endeavors. Of these, about 10,000 awards are made annually.
