With the continued scaling of CMOS process technology, digital computation capabilities have improved exponentially. The integration and design of high-performance analog/RF circuits at these advanced technologies, however, remain a challenge. This talk presents some of our digitally-assisted analog design work, where challenges in modern RF/analog circuit design are mitigated by exploiting the digital signal processing capabilities of scaled processes. In particular, recent developments in frequency channelized high-speed analog-to-digital converters, inertial sensor interface circuitries, and digital phase-locked loops are described. The talk will provide an overview of both recent and ongoing research.
Won Namgoong is an Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. He received his BS degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1993 and the MS and PhD from Stanford University in 1995 and 1999, respectively, all in electrical engineering. His research interests are in analog/digital circuits and systems for communications and sensors. He has served on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I – Regular Papers and the Journal of VLSI Signal Processing. He received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2002.
