Alumni President's Letter

Dear Alumni,

At NYU-Poly’s recent commencement ceremony, I had the honor of welcoming more than 1,100 new graduates to our global community of over 39,000 leaders, innovators, inventors and entrepreneurs throughout the United States and in 55 countries around the world.

As our alumni family continues to grow globally and across generations, we cherish every opportunity to establish and strengthen the bond among recent NYU-Poly graduates, long-standing and dedicated members of the Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association (PIAA) and our alma mater.

In that spirit, I invite the Class of 2012 to join me in congratulating all of our alumni and their family members who are celebrating a special class anniversary this year—Brooklyn Poly graduates from the Classes of ’42, ’52, ’62 and ’72; Polytechnic Institute of New York alums of the Class of ’82 and Polytechnic University grads from ’92 and ’02.

This year marks 150 years since the first informal meeting of Poly’s alumni leadership in 1862 in anticipation of planning the 1863 alumni reunion. We have some exciting events planned to commemorate this very special time for the PIAA. Visit our website for information on events in your area. To make sure that you don’t miss any of our special announcements about events and alumni receptions, visit to make sure your contact information is up-to-date and to request your Alumni Membership Card.

Over the last year, we have set high goals for what the association hopes to accomplish. I look forward to announcing the ambitious programs that will launch in the 2012-13 year. None of these efforts would be possible without the support of the Office of Alumni Relations and the dedicated work of our PIAA volunteer leadership.

As president of the PIAA and as a member of the International Board of Directors (IBOD), I would like to thank outgoing board members, Dick Foxen ’73, Jim Oussani ’77, David Sobin ’72 and Shafik Yaghmour ’97 ’03 ’09, for their unwavering dedication to the IBOD during the last three years. I look forward to welcoming our new IBOD members and to serving our global NYU-Poly alumni community. For a listing of our new IBOD members, please visit
