Executive Council

The Executive Council, consisting of the six Executive Board members plus seven alumni who are not Directors, supports the PAA by implementing policies of the International Board of Directors, providing guidance to and aiding the establishment of new alumni chapters or sections, providing oversight, advice and guidance for alumni engagement and communication efforts, career networking, and events.

The seven non-Director seats on the Executive Council are selected by the President in consultation with the PAA Executive Board from among the most active alumni and section/chapter leaders.

Alan Hyman '95EE '12MS MOT

Alan Hyman is an accomplished entrepreneur and innovative businessman with over 20 years experience in Management Information System and Information Technology (MS/MOT). He started his college academics at Pratt Institute’s Electrical Engineering program via a full scholarship. The program at Pratt Institute closed and he was transferred to Polytechnic Institute as an undergraduate in Electrical Engineering (Minor in Computer Science). While attending university, he fully supported himself by working as a consultant at International Business Machines (IBM) on what would be their first Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Skills Database System. After graduation, Alan was hired into Chase Manhattan’s first developer technology training program where he managed and developed strategic internal applications and IT Architecture. He later moved in to Chase Manhattan’s first Internet applications development group. Upon leaving Chase Manhattan, Alan was hired as Directory of Technology at Software Technology Group (STG), where he created and led teams that developed data warehouses for the financial services industry. More than a decade ago he left STG to found TekPerts Technologies, Inc. a company that provides information technology and business consulting services to small and medium size companies and startups in various industries such as healthcare, finance, construction, nonprofit, and publishing.

Henry Bertoni, PhD '62EE '68EpH

Henry L. Bertoni received the BSEE degree from Northwestern University and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Polytechnic. After graduation in 1967 he joined the Poly faculty, serving at different times as Head of EE, as Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and as Director of the NSF funded Wireless Internet Center for Advanced Technology (WICAT). Dr. Bertoni is a Fellow of the IEEE and was the founding Chairman of the Technical Committee on Personal Communications of the IEEE Communications Society. He represented the IEEE on the Hoover Medal Board of Award, and became its Chairman. He was on the ADCOM of the IEEE UFFC Society, and from 1998 to 2000 was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.

His research has dealt with theoretical aspects of wave phenomena in electromagnetics, ultrasonics, acoustics and optics, and has been described in over 160 journal and conference papers, five of which have received best paper awards. He and his graduate students developed methods for the theoretical prediction of UHF propagation characteristics in urban environments. For this work he received the James R. Evans Avant Garde Award for Contributions to Standard Propagation Models for the Wireless Telecommunications Industry from the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society.

Joel Fernandez '11 CyS

A proud native of Brooklyn New York, I now call Washington DC my home. In 2012, I will celebrate 10 wonderful years of marriage, and have two amazing children. I am a graduate of the MS in Cyber Security program at NYU Poly (2011). The majority of my career was spent as a Civil Servant for the City of New York leading IT Projects for the Human Resources Administration. In 20122, I was selected as one of four graduate students in the United States to participate in the Emerging Leaders in Cyber Security Fellowship at the Department of Homeland Security. The focus of this two year fellowship is Digital Forensics and Malware Analysis.

David Campaña '96MA

David Campaña is a seasoned 18 year professional specializing in Technology Strategy, Application Development and Architecture. As an Enterprise Architect and Technical Standards Global Program Manager, he is responsible for identifying and recommending technical standards globally for the firm, managing over 1000 technologies and 3000+ applications. Prior to this current role, as the Chief Technical Officer at New York City Department of Finance, he is responsible for the systems and technology which collects over $20 billion in revenue, or 1/3 of the New York City’s fiscal budget. His responsibilities include developing and implementing enterprise architecture, policies, standards and technology. Campaña’s previous positions include being a Chief Technical Architect in the insurance vertical, where he was responsible for the technology and systems that manage global assets valued over $360 billion. As an Applications / Acquisitions Manager at a research marketing company, he lead the technology merger and acquisitions activity for the organization which included the acquisition of a content research firm for $85 million in 1999. Compaña has designed and implemented global solutions for pharmaceutical, research, banking and insurance organizations. Compaña’s more recent expertise comes from specific portal and content management implementations for Fortune 500 companies and government. Compaña currently holds an MBA degree from Columbia University School of Business with a concentration on Strategic Management and a BS Degree from Polytechnic University (now Polytechnic Institute of NYU) in Mathematics.

Steve Kuyan ’08 ‘11

Steven Kuyan serves as the Associate Director of the Incubator and Entrepreneurial Initiatives at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Part of his responsibilities includes strategic initiatives to accelerate innovation at the University through student involvement in the Inno/Vention prototyping competition and SPIKE internship program. He is responsible for managing two of the three incubators at NYU at Varick Street in Soho and DUMBO in Brooklyn. The incubators are a public-private partnership with NYCEDC focused on sustaining and supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in New York City. In the past five years the incubators graduated 45 companies, 7 as acquisitions, created in excess of 1,200 jobs and attracted over $120mm in venture capital. In 2012, Worth Magazine named the Incubators at NYU one of the top 10 startup spaces in the US.

Steven is an adjunct professor of graduate entrepreneurship at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering as well as founder, advisor and board member of the NYU’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Association (EIA). EIA is the School of Engineering’s largest student organization with a mission of bridging the gap between academia and entrepreneurship to streamline student ventures. Steven holds a bachelor’s degree in Business and Technology Management and a master’s degree in Technology Management from NYU Tandon School of Engineering.


Nick Mitchell ’82 ’93MS

Nicholas Mitchell is a thirty-two year aerospace engineering professional who leads multi-disciplined teams in planning and executing aircraft engineering projects including research and development, design integration, qualification testing, production development and reliability/sustainment improvement projects. In his current role as a Senior Staff Systems Engineer at the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, he coordinates the proposal effort, along with the engineering design and development, qualification testing, and implementation of capability improvement projects on high performance Aircraft. He is a recognized Structural Test Subject Matter Expert and has led several full-scale Aircraft Structural Test programs for the Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman corporations.

Mr. Mitchell began his career as a Structural Loads engineer for the Rockwell International – North American Aircraft Operations Company. He has subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility at the Northrop Grumman Corporation and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. In his previous role as Senior Aeronautical Engineer Manager at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, he led the Material Processes (M&P) and Systems Engineering Integration (SEIT) Teams during the engineering development phases of a major aircraft program. He is a passionate advocate of STEM initiatives, enjoys coaching, mentoring and working with students.

Mr. Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Arts of Science Degree from NYU Tandon School of Engineering, has completed the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management Technical Management Program and is a graduate of Lockheed Martin’s Executive/Management Development Program.

Kevin Bishop ’11

Mr. Kevin Bishop is currently an Operating Supervisor in the Brooklyn/Queens Equipment Group at Con Edison. In this position, Mr. Bishop is responsible for supervising Substation Operators, Operating Mechanics and subordinate titled personnel in the physical installation, maintenance, repair, testing, inspection and environmental compliance of all unit substation equipment in the Brooklyn and Queens area.

Prior to this assignment, Mr. Bishop was a management intern in the prestigious Growth Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD) Program at Con Edison.
Mr. Bishop holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and graduated cum laude from Polytechnic Institute of New York University. He is an active member of the New York Metropolitan Area Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE – NYMAC) and is a part of other notable organizations such as National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME).

Throughout his career, Mr. Bishop has demonstrated his effectiveness in positions of influence by quickly gaining the trust and respect of his fellow associates through his diligent work ethics and compassionate personality. He firmly believes that there are no insurmountable problems, and utilizes all avenues available to succeed.
